Energy forum set for Monday at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The focus will be on energy policies during a Monday forum at West Virginia University.  It’s the second such event officials with WVU have hosted in cooperation with First District Congressman David McKinley (R-WV) in as many years.

“WVU is on the cutting edge of energy, not only with its own work, but also in proximity with the National Energy Technology Laboratory there,” said McKinley.  “We have a chance to really become a focal point for energy research in this country.”

In addition to McKinley, those scheduled to speak Monday include Fred King, WVU’s vice president for research, Richard Bajura, National Research Center for Coal and Energy director and Wesley Burnett, WVU professor of energy and economics.

Executives from Arch Coal, Dominion Power, Ergon, Appalachian Power and Consol Energy will attend along with those with the Sierra Club and the Alliance to Save Energy.

“This is where we have a chance to talk about, what is the future of energy?  As long as energy’s playing such a predominant role in our economy in West Virginia, I can’t think of a better place to have it than West Virginia,” said McKinley.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at WVU’s Mountainlair Ballroom, is open to the public.
