Herd’s Pittman suspended indefinitely, could miss matchup against WVU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — When Marshall takes the floor Saturday against West Virginia in the Capital Classic it will do so without leading scorer Elijah Pittman, who has been suspended indefinitely.

The Marshall athletics department made the announcement through a release Monday afternoon and said it would have no further comment on the issue.

Pittman was averaging 21.4 points per game but was benched for most of the second half in The Herd’s 90-77 loss to Penn State on Saturday. Pittman was just 14-for-42 from the field and 5-of-24 from 3-point range during the last two games and 10-of-28 at the free-throw line over the past three games. He was also ejected in the early going against Western Kentucky for throwing an elbow in face of a WKU player.

Pittman was the only returning starter from a 2012-13 roster that was purged in the offseason and revamped coming to this year’s campaign.

Marshall is set to take on WVU Saturday night at the Charleston Civic Center at 7:30 p.m.
