Sharon Flanagan, 35, of Inwood, was sentenced Monday for the July 2012 crime. She was convicted of first-degree murder earlier this year. Her sentence handed down Monday affords no chance for parole.

Flanagan’s son, Steven, Flanagan died five days after the incident. His father, also named Steven, testified during Monday’s sentencing.

“All I can truly say about it, is why? There was no cause for it from start to finish,” Flanagan said.

Sharon Flanagan did not speak during the sentencing hearing.

Prosecutors said she killed her son because she was unhappy her husband had been granted 70 percent custody of him during a bitter divorce.

The drowning occurred July 1, 2012, at the Best Western Parkway Center Inn in Green Tree.

Had she "aborted" the boy before he was born, even up to the date of his delivery, we wouldn't be having this discussion and it would not have made news.

Google her name and read the stories about the murder along with the evidence pictures.

Breaks my heart. How in the world could anoyne, especially the boy's mother, do this is beyond comprehension.

  • Dave, just Dave.

    She's hot though.

    • Doug

She is attractive. Well, from that pic, anyway.

Goes to show you that a pretty face can still hide the soul of a baby killer.

You 2 have pretty low standards. Hot? Attractive?? I don't think so

May her days in prison be few and painful. She doesn't deserve to take another breath on this Earth. God Bless that little boy.

the bible says that people who hurt children might as well tie a mill stone around their neck and jump into a river. not a verbatim quote but the meaning is clear.

      Matthew 18:6
      King James Version (KJV)

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

The reason for it is she's evil, look at her hollow, piercing eyes.

  • jag

nope that is too good for her. But, then again maybe she could drown herself in jail. maybe her cell mates will help her bathe. W Va really needs to get the death penalty back jsut for scum bags like this

There must be a special place in Hell for anyone that kills a child. I don't want to hear this "she was sick" crap. Anyone that would kill any child must less their on child is truly a evil person. The courts already stated she was not a good mother or why else would the father have 70% custody. I hope she see's her son's face every time she closes her eyes.I hope she never has a peaceful day the rest of her life in prison.
