Doc says Military Bowl good fit for Herd

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall football Doc Holliday said he was disappointed the Herd couldn’t nail down the Conference USA Championship last weekend.

“You know it’s all about playing for championships and we got there, but we didn’t get it done,” Holliday said Tuesday on MetroNews Talkline.

However, the Thundering Herd football team will put that game behind them and prepare to play Maryland in the Military Bowl. The game is 2:30 p.m. on December 27 in Annapolis, Md. at the Naval Academy.

“If you’ve never been there and seen the academy and the stadium and the tradition that goes with it, it really is a special place,” said Holliday. “It’s a great place for a college game and a great atmosphere.”

Holliday expects a tough test from the Terrapins, particularly playing in their home state. But the coach expects Herd nation will represent itself well. The proximity of the game and the timing make it one that is favorable to fans who want to make the trip.

“I know our kids are excited and our fan base is looking forward to it,” he said. “We’ve got to have a great showing over there on the 27th.”
