CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state’s 511 traffic system turned a year-old Thursday. The system provides statewide traffic updates including the use of cameras on some of the state’s busiest highways.
The information is accessed by dialing 5-1-1 or going to the system’s website at wv511.org or there’s the Drive Safe app.
State Department of Transportation 511 Coordinator Brandi Krofcheck said 511 has been well-received.
“Overall people seem to like it. It’s a user-friendly system and it’s free. Everybody loves free things,” she said.
511 recently reported it 138,000 unique users on its website with 400,000 views.
“On average someone is only on it for two minutes, average two minutes,” Krofcheck said. “You can actually get on your iPad, your computer, your iPhone, get on there look on your route see what’s going on and you’re done.”
511’s theme is “Know Before You Go.”
