Messy weather forecasted for weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for a section of West Virginia’s eastern panhandle Saturday.

Meteorologists said residents in Hampshire, Mineral, Morgan and Berkeley counties could get as much as 4-8 inches of snow in a storm that will end with sleet and freezing rain as warmer temperatures move in.

The highest accumulation amounts are forecasted in the areas closest to the Mason-Dixon Line.

The warning begins at 5 a.m. Saturday and stretches to 1 a.m. Sunday.

The NWS has placed Pocahontas and Randolph counties under a Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday through 1 a.m. Sunday. It’s forecasted to snow between 2-4 inches and end with freezing rain.

Snow accumulation totals are far less with a wintry mix for most of the rest of the state on Saturday with more rain than snow.
