First year Morgantown girls’ coach settling in

Morgantown High’s Olivia Seggie helped lead the Mohigans to the semifinals of last year’s state tournament.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — First year Morgantown girls’ basketball head coach Jason White has his tenure underway with the Mohigans. White, who was most recently the freshman Morgantown boys basketball coach, took over this year for the departed Adam Henkins.

“The transition has been smoother than I could have anticipated,” White said on MetroNews High School Sportsline last week. “The girls have done a really good job to adapting to my style of coaching.”

Morgantown opened up the year with wins over Fairmont Senior and South Charleston, but lost last week to rival University, 40-29.

“I want to bring my own blend and style to the mix – I think it’s important that we adapt to the personnel that we have,” White said. “It’s not so much what I want to do, it’s what we’re able to do.

“We’re really young and have a lot of inexperience – that’s my biggest concern and our biggest problem so far,” he continued. “We only have two seniors and really only three girls returning that had any varsity experience at all last year. We have seven juniors on this squad and are really building to the future. Still, this is a very talented team.”
