WV receives more funding for Hurricane Sandy cleanup

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia is getting additional funding to assist with the cleanup of areas affected by Hurricane Sandy last year.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin announced Tuesday that the state will receive an additional $242,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor National Emergency Grant.

Last fall, FEMA declared 18 West Virginia counties eligible for FEMA’s Public Assistance Program following damage caused by heavy snowfall associated with Hurricane Sandy.

In December 2012, WorkForce West Virginia was granted a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to create temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers to assist with the cleanup and recovery efforts.

This additional funding will go to serve Barbour, Preston, Tucker, Upshur and Webster counties. It will allow for the continuation of those temporary jobs to assist in the cleanup effort following Hurricane Sandy.
