Interstate 77 fully open in Mercer County

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Interstate 77 is once again fully open to traffic in Mercer County.

All northbound lanes reopened Thursday afternoon following more than a week of work to fix a slipping hillside.

The problem was first identified, between Bluefield and Princeton, back on Dec. 2.  Since then, closures have been in place for one or more lanes, at different times, to allow for correction work.

As of Thursday, officials with the Division of Highways said they did not anticipate any additional closures.

The goal had been to fix the problem before Christmas holiday travel.
