Wind and low humidity create fire danger

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service issued a Fire Danger Statement Thursday afternoon for southern West Virginia.

NWS meteorologists said gusty winds and low humidity created an enhanced fire danger across open areas and hilltops. Afternoon highs jumped to the 60-degree mark.

The statement was issued for Lincoln, Kanawha, Mingo, Logan, Boone, McDowell, Wyoming and Raleigh counties.

The weather service said open burning of any type is considered very hazardous. The danger was expected to drop when the sun went down.

The rules of the fall burning are in effect until the end of the year. Outdoor burning is prohibited between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
