Bluefield bus service gets new buildings

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — New administrative and maintenance facilities are open for the Bluefield Area Transit (BAT), the public transit program serving Mercer County and McDowell County.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the $3.9 million project was held on Friday.

“BAT is an award winning system and is consistently a top performer in the state’s rural transit program,” said state Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox.

The facilities were paid for using a competitive grant application process.  Those with Danhill Construction Company of Gauley Bridge built the site.

Bluefield Area Transit has routes in Bluefield, Princeton, Athens and Welch.
