Bluefield fire ruled arson

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The state Fire Marshal’s Office is looking for an arsonist responsible for a Bluefield blaze.

Investigators announced Friday the Thursday fire at an abandoned apartment building at 1261 Maryland Avenue was intentionally set.

The fire was first reported at 4 a.m. Thursday. Fire crews were on the scene for about 10 hours. The building is approximately 12,000 square feet.

Students from nearby Bluefield Middle School were dismissed early Thursday because of the heavy smoke.
