Calhoun County mother sentenced to 40 years for child’s death

GRANTSVILLE, W.Va. — A Calhoun County woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison for her role in the 2012 death of her 2-month-old child.

Ashley Kreh, 23, shook her daughter, Darlene Marie Rogers, because she was mad the child’s father, Ordie Rogers, 32, of Chloe, did not acknowledge Valentine’s Day.

In the process, the child’s head hit a crib rail.

Kreh was sentenced for child neglect causing death in Calhoun County Circuit Court on Friday.  She was charged because she did not seek immediate medical attention for her daughter who suffered brain injuries.

The child was eventually taken to Roane General Hospital initially and later died at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Rogers is facing separate child neglect charges.  His trial has not yet been scheduled.

State police handled the investigation.
