WVU governors: New president must have certain characteristics

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The committee to search for a new president of West Virginia University will be chosen by Jan. 6, and the school’s Board of Governors adopted characteristics for the new president at its meeting Friday.

The proposed characteristics focus on candidates experienced running a research university with a medical center and an administrators familiar with the mission of land grant institutions. The proposal will be forwarded to the state Higher Education Policy Commission for approval.

Also Friday, the BOG approved a new degree in hospitality and tourism management. The program will be housed under the College of Business and Economics.
