Goodnight 2013

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The city of Charleston is preparing for Goodnight 2013. This marks the 19th year for the event that offers entertainment on New Year’s Eve in the capital city’s downtown.

Alice Ann Robertson is heading up this year’s celebration. She said you can expect four new acts this year and a whole lot of variety.

“There’s such a diversity of offerings. We have every kind of music you could ever want or enjoy,” explained Robertson. “I truly believe we have the best of the best.”

Some of the groups and soloists lined up for this year’s event include: the Presby Pickers, Appalachian Celtic Consort, the Charleston Metro Band, womanSong and organist Ralph Mills.

Robertson said you won’t find a better deal on New Year’s Eve.

“It’s free. It’s alcohol-free. It’s family-friendly. It’s just a wonderful way to end the year and get ready to start a new year,” stressed Robertson.

The music gets underway on January 31 at 6pm. There are 25 different performers at 11 different locations. Each performance lasts anywhere between 40 and 45 minutes, with plenty of time to make it to your next destination before the event wraps up at 10 p.m.

You can park for free at the Virginia Street Garage next to City Hall and the city’s trolleys will be making stops at the different venues to get you where you want to go.

Whether you like jazz, folk, rock and roll or gospel, Robertson said Goodnight has something for you.
