CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is already nearing its room-nights goal.
The CVB announced Friday that it has already reached 73 percent of its targeted sales goal of room-nights for the year.
At this point in the year, the CVB has booked more than 17,000 of its 24,500 room night goal.
“We are slowly climbing out of a slumping meetings environment with large city-wide meetings in the government and association sectors dramatically curtailed,” stated CVB President and CEO Alisa Bailey in a release. “Our sales team is doing a great job adjusting to this by pursuing other market sectors that are growing such as booking medium-sized meetings and sporting events.”
The most recent organization booked, American Cornhole Organization, will host more than 700 people and have a local economic impact of $520,000. Other booked organizations include the USA Boxing, 2014-16 and the Hot Rod Power Magazine Tour 2014.
The CVB also is working on plans for a major February 2014 event called the Travel South Showcase. This event will bring in 300-400 people, including 50 media representatives. It will be the first time the event is hosted in Charleston.
