Fire claims life in Monongalia County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An elderly woman was killed early Tuesday morning in a house fire in Monongalia County.

The blaze was reported at about 2:30 a.m. along Fairchance Road in the Cheat Lake area. The house was full of flames when fire crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters said an elderly man was able to escape the home. He suffered only minor injuries.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.
