Name released in Monongalia County fatal fire

CHEAT LAKE, W.Va. — The state Fire Marshal’s Office said a New Year’s Eve deadly fire in Monongalia County appears to be accidental in nature.

Investigators released the name of the victim Thursday. They said Katherine Ann Clere, 76, couldn’t get out of her burning home on Fairchance Road near Cheat Lake.

An elderly man was able to make it out.
