Henderson reflects on game-tying 3-pointer

LUBBOCK, Texas — Terry Henderson didn’t hesitate on his game-tying 3-pointer with 16.8 seconds left in regulation, a 24-foot shot that forced overtime at Texas Tech and helped West Virginia eventually escape with an 89-86 victory.

“It was kind of deep, too—and I don’t usually shoot no deep 3s—but I felt confident,” Henderson said. “Good thing I made it.”

Bob Huggins called a flare-and-pop play designed to spring Eron Harris or Henderson free, and he didn’t mind seeing the deep shot go up.

“At that point in time, we didn’t have any choice,” Huggins said.

Henderson closed the game with 16 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range, and also dished out four assists as West Virginia (10-5, 2-0) won its second straight road game to open Big 12 play.

A 40-percent 3-point shooter as a freshman, Henderson is making only 33 percent this season, though Monday night’s clutch game suggested that rate of accuracy might be climbing.
