Two killed in separate weekend accidents

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Police are investigating two deadly weekend accidents.

On Sunday morning, troopers said Christopher S. Bradley, 22, of Catawba, Va., was killed when the large box truck he was driving crashed on Route 92 in Pocahontas County.

The wreck happened around 5 a.m.  The cause has not been determined.  The box truck was the only vehicle involved.

In Grant County, a Saturday crash claimed the life of a Brandywine man.  State Police said it happened on Secondary Route 21, about two miles south of Route 33, near Propstburg Road.

Troopers said the driver of that vehicle, Luther Junior Helmick, 81, lost control and the vehicle rolled onto its top after hitting an embankment.

A passenger in the vehicle, James Helmick, 87, also of Brandywine, was critically injured and was flown to the University of Virginia hospital for treatment.
