Washington No. 1 in week one of the MetroNews Power Index

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Washington is tabbed as the top team in the state for week one of the boys basketball MetroNews Power Index, released early Wednesday evening.

The Patriots (7-0) entered Wednesday with six out-of-state wins and a marquee victory over rival and defending Class AAA state champion Martinsburg, 83-49.

Another eastern panhandle school, Musselman, sits right behind Washington at No. 2. The Applemen (5-0) will face off against Washington on Friday.

Parkersburg South (7-0) has also been off to an impressive start as the Patriots come in at No. 3 overall in Class AAA. South Charleston (4-0) comes in at No. 4 and Hedgesville (6-1) rounds out the top five.

The highest Class AA team ranked is Robert C. Byrd (5-0) at No. 7. The Eagles are closely followed by defending Class AA state champion Bluefield (5-0) at No. 11.

Out of Class A, Huntington St. Joseph (9-0) comes in at No. 19.

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 7th.
