CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The U.S. Chemical Safety Board said Saturday that it’s sending an investigative team to Charleston to investigate the 7,500 gallon chemical spill into the Elk River that’s impacting up to 300,000 residents in a nine-county region serviced by West Virginia American Water Company.
CSB Chairperson Rafael Moure-Eraso issued a statement Saturday afternoon concerning the leak from Freedom Industries:
“This incident continues to impact the people of West Virginia – our goal is to find out what happened to allow a leak of such magnitude to occur and to ensure that the proper safeguards are in place to prevent a similar incident from occurring.”
The team is scheduled to arrive in West Virginia Monday morning.
