Man dead in Williamson fire

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The state Fire Marshal’s Office said a man died in a Saturday morning blaze in Williamson.

The fire broke out just after 5 a.m. in a building at the intersection of Pike Street and 3rd Avenue. It housed several apartments and businesses including a small grocery store.

Investigators said Robert Mitchell Smith, 48, died in the fire. Another man suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns in the blaze. He’s being treated at a burn center.

The building was destroyed. An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
