Charleston man shot, 2 in custody, after reported drug robbery

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man was in stable condition at Charleston Area Medical Center after he was shot in the chest early Sunday morning.

The shooting reportedly happened at his home on Ruffner Avenue on the city’s East Side. According to police, 55-year-old James Stewart allowed two men into his residence in order to purchase narcotics. That’s when one of the men pulled out a gun and attempted to rob Stewart, firing one shot.

Police have arrested two suspects: Isaiah White, 27 and Shawn Lane, 25, both of Charleston. They were charged with malicious wounding and first-degree robbery.

Stewart was taken to CAMC General where he underwent surgery.
