MSHA says it’s made UBB corrections

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration announced Monday it has met all 100 recommendations published in the months after the 2010 disaster at the Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh County where 29 miners were killed.

The recommendations came as part of an internal review.

“The internal review was designed to identify shortcomings so that we, as an agency, could take necessary actions to improve mine safety and health,” MSHA Chief Joe Main said in a prepared release. “The result was one of the most comprehensive internal reviews in MSHA history, and the most extensive improvements at the agency in decades.”

A list of MSHA’s corrective actions can be found on the Upper Big Branch single source page at: http://www.msha.gov/PerformanceCoal/UBBInternalReview/UBBCorrectiveActions.asp.
