Clarksburg Council member convicted of domestic assault

CLARKSBURG, W.Va–Clarksburg City Councilman Sam “Zeke” Lopez is facing a 30-day suspended sentence and one-year probation after being found guilty of domestic assault.

A jury deliberated for nearly five hours Wednesday after hearing testimony from a number of people during the trial, including former Clarksburg Police Chief Marshall, Goff, Zeke Lopez himself, two friends of the Lopez’s, and Linda Lopez’s daughter.

Clarksburg police were called to Lopez’s home last year where his wife, Linda, claimed Lopez pinned her down, hit her with a rolling pin and dumped food on her during an argument.

Lopez was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery. During his turn on the stand, Lopez denied ever hitting Linda and attributed the couple’s disagreement to Linda’s beer and prescription medication cocktail.

Lopez must also report to the Harrison County Day Report Center, pay $160.25 in court costs, and an additional jury fee that has not yet been determined.
