Mining death in Tucker County

DAVIS, W.Va. — The state Mine Safety Office is investigating a fatal coal mining accident that happened Thursday night in Tucker County.

The state Office of Mine Safety Health and Training said Daniel Lambka, 20, of Kitzmiller, Maryland, as killed at Mettiki Coal’s Mountain View Mine near Davis.

The death occurred at around 9:10 p.m. when Lambka was crushed according to a preliminary investigation.

Lambka had more than four years of mining experience. He had been at the Mountain View Mine for less than six months.

State and federal investigators were on the scene Friday.
