Who killed Huntington woman? Investigators seek answers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Cabell County sheriffs and Huntington police are investigating to learn who killed 21-year-old Diane Bess, just days after the missing woman’s body was found along Route 10 near Salt Rock.

“At this point, anybody and everybody would be a suspect,” said Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas. “When you haven’t got a lot of information, you don’t want to have tunnel vision and focus in one person, but look at what’s there.”

Investigators said Bess was last seen Dec. 24. She left her mother’s Guyandotte home to go shopping and was reported missing to Huntington police the following week when she did not return.

“She was seen at the mall in Barboursville, at a Wal-Mart along Route 60, and some different places,” but McComas said it was not clear what happened between that time and when her body was discovered last Friday.

McComas said the discovery was made when a man stopped along Route 10 looking for firewood.

Anyone with information about the murder can call the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department at 304-743-1594 or the Huntington police at 304-696-4444.

McComas was a guest on Tuesday’s MetroNews “Talkline.”
