Little movement in Power Index as weather causes havoc on schedules

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Mother Nature continues to take its toll on the high school boys basketball schedule around the state as many teams still don’t have 10 games in on the year.

Washington (10-0) stays at No. 1 overall in week four of the MetroNews Power Index after not playing over the past week. Parkersburg South swaps places with Musselman as the Patriots jump up to No. 2 and Musselman drops to No. 3 – both teams suffered their first losses on the year within the past week. South fell to Morgantown, 59-56, while Musselman lost to Martinsburg, 83-55.

Hedgesville stays at No. 4, South Charleston No. 5, Huntington No. 6 and Robert C. Byrd at No. 7 (the Eagles are the highest rated Class AA team). Martinsburg made a significant jump after that win over Musselman, moving up to No. 8 overall with an 8-3 record. Capital is No. 9 and George Washington rounds out the top 10.

Westside is the second highest AA team ranked, coming in at No. 15 with an 8-2 record – the Renegades beat Bluefield this week in the Big Atlantic Classic, 62-57.

St. Joseph Central (14-0) remains as the highest Class A team ranked at No. 17 overall.

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 28th.
