MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A double-digit victory over a ranked team wasn’t enough to satisfy West Virginia coach Mike Carey, who thought his team lacked fire Wednesday night.
“I’m as disappointed now as if we would have lost,” Carey said after WVU defeated No. 23 Iowa State 67-56.
“In the shootaround we were kind of quiet and laid back, in warmups laid back, and I addressed it before the game and we were (still) laid back.”
Even though West Virginia (18-3, 7-2) is challenging for the Big 12 title at the midpoint of the league schedule, Carey knows the final nine regular-season games will be crucial—with seeding so be crucial to his team’s NCAA tournament hopes.
