No leak in Martinsburg hazmat incident

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — There was no chemical release during a fire at a Martinsburg plant Friday according to company officials.

Ecolab said the afternoon fire at its Baker Road plant took place in some insulation surrounding one of its containers. The container holds glacial acetic acid. A company spokesman said the contents of the tank did not leak.

Firefighters and hazmat crews were on the scene for several hours.

There was a precautionary evacuation of residents living in the Liberty Run subdivision near the plant. They were allowed to return to their homes a few hours later.

Ecolab makes and sells cleaning and repair products.
