Marshall won the C-USA softball tournament title Saturday, beating Houston 4-1.

DALLAS, TX— The defending C-USA Softball Tournament Champions have been picked to finish third in the league in 2014.  Marshall is ranked third in Conference USA preseason coaches’ poll.

The Herd captured its first C-USA title last season and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament and narrowly lost battles with Virginia Tech and Kentucky in the regionals.

Kaelynn Greene and Shaelynn Braxton were voted to preseason all-conference team.  Greene led Marshall with a .354 batting average in 2013 and swiped 13 bases.

Braxton blasted five homers and drove in 18 runs las season as a freshman.

C-USA Coaches picked UAB to win the conference this year.  The Blazers received seven first place votes.  Tulsa was ranked second, receiving five first place votes.
