Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight (9) and teammates celebrate after the Sooners clinched a 45-31 win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl last month. West Virginia faces both teams during the first four weeks of the 2014 season.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia-Oklahoma football game at Milan Puskar Stadium has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 20, a shift made to accommodate television.

The Big 12 Conference made the announcement Monday afternoon in conjunction with several other schedule changes.

The originally scheduled date of Saturday, Sept. 27, will now serve as an open week for WVU, which faces a daunting early season schedule.

The Mountaineers face Alabama in the Georgia Dome on Aug. 30, followed by the home opener against FCS runner-up Towson a week later. After a trip to Maryland on Sept. 13, West Virginia hosts the Sooners in the Big 12 opener.

Both Alabama and Oklahoma figure to be preseason top-10 teams, while Maryland enters the Big Ten with a projected 17 returning starters from a team that blanked WVU 37-0 last fall.

Kickoff times for the 2014 season will be announced at a later time.

Oklahoma had been slated to face Tulsa on Sept. 20, but that game was shifted to Sept. 6, the Big 12 announced. Also, the Auburn-Kansas State game originally scheduled for Sept. 20 in Manhattan, Kan., will played Thursday, Sept. 18 instead.

Texas! Just wanted to mention keep up the great job!

  • Mountaineer Fanatic

Other than Maryland we have a really good schedule. We are at home Oklahoma, Open, at home Kansas, away Texas Tech, home Baylor, away Oklahoma State, home TCU away Texas, open, home Kansas State and away Iowa State. Never away two in a row.
    WVU will surprise. LETS GOOOOOOO

  • Mountaineer Fanatic

Have a question about another game. Why are we playing Maryland in Maryland? We did that last year. Difficult to forget sense they would not let our band play on their field.

    • Seen enough....Heard enough

I think our band would have stood a better chance than our football team showed.

  • The Wisetalker

    ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • KeatonsCorner

What a great response. You must have slaved for hours to come up with that one, Larry Jeffords.

  • Country Roads

According to ESPN West Virginia is ranked 38th on this years recruiting class, and have four of their outstanding 300 recruit selection is in this years recruiting, and could it'll prove on that...

    • mad hatter

according to scout, we're 48th,, espn never gets it right,,, and we're 8th in big 12 recruiting, so how do we compete

  • mad hatter

our incoming recruiting class is ranked 48th,,, 48th, and who really expects us to compete against anyone other than towson.

    • Charleston

What recruiting service did that ranking come from? Rivals? Sporting News? ESPN?

      • Charles

Does it really matter which rating service it is? we don't have a good recruiting class and that means more mediocrity. A freshman quarterback is not going to beat Alabama. 38th, 48th or whatever, it's another ho-hum class.

        • Charleston

"Does it really matter which rating service it is?".......Let me think about that, yes. Yes it does.

"A freshman quarterback is not going to beat Alabama." Wasn't Johnny Manziel a freshman quarterback when the Aggies beat Alabama.? Yes, yes he was.

Actually it's Rivals: #43, 247 Sports: #39, ESPN: #38. That's not too shabby if you ask me, certainly not ho-hum. Just my .02 cents worth.

  • wow

what a tough opening to the year, if we go 2-2 over the first 4 games, I will be happy. I would be very happy if we do better. It looks like we could win or lose 3 out of the 4 games I will just hope for the best. Go eeerrrss

    • mad hatter

we beat towson st. and that's it,, haven't you got use to it yet,,, we generally don't compete against the big boys,,,

      • Mister Man

        And Marshall never will.

        • Darby

after watching Marshall against Maryland in the bowl last year I'm glad we didn't play them. Cato and folks would run up 70 on the guru Holgerson (who needs to be run out of town!!!) Stew could still do better dead.

  • Dr. Sarcasm

Bama is gonna have 3 straight losses! Two against Big 12(10) teams!

  • ShinnstonGuy

This is a ridiculous change of schedule. If they weren't sure of the schedule they shouldn't have released it. Many WVU season ticket holders drive from other states and have to plan ahead...now they are screwed. I am sure if we dug down deep we would find it is all about TV. Screw you Mr. Season Ticket Holder...you pay $30 to park, $60 a ticket, and $10 a beer, but you get to sit out in the hot sun for the early season games, and then sit in the freezing cold for the late season games all in the name of TV rights.

    • ShinnstonGuy

Interesting how many of you are defending WVU in this...yet on EVERY OTHER STORY you are putting down the school as if every decision they make brings fire and brimstone. Thanks for the morning chuckle!

    • mad hatter

my god man , that's 9 months away,,, how early do you have to swing across the ohio river

    • tw eagle

and Shinnston guy , there is plenty of parking near the stadium that is not that exorbitantly priced . . . since leaving the confines of the beautiful of the state of West Virginia , when returning for football games , if I'm tailgating I park near or at Father Flynn Field ( 5 minute walk from stadium) or when not tailgating I park in Morgantown and take the PRT to the game . . . liking to whet my whistle I have had pockets sewn in the inside seam of my cargo pants . . . two flasks of bourbon saves me trips to the concession and that means money in my pocket . . . I can't excuse the price gouging , but neither can I give up the addiction I have for WVU athletics . . .

    • tw eagle

for $22 million per team per year , TV gets to tell the XII when & where to play the games . . . if TV wants the game played at 3am in the morning , it gets played at 3am in the morning . . . I loved the fact the Mountaineers played all their games in Old Mountaineer Field at 12pm . . . games were over around 2:30 and I walked home to Westover and was telling dad about the game ( he liked to listen on the radio ) . . . the only games that started other than 12 were the Navy & Pitt games that were broadcast on , GUESS WHAT , TV . . . they started at 1pm . . . TV calls all the shots . . .

    • Charles

They have not renewed or sold one season ticket yet. Chill

      • Out-of-StateGuy

I'd be willing to bet Shinnston Guy hasn't been to a home game in 20 years. I say that because he didn't mention the MAC contribution you have to pay to buy the season ticket. I'm one of those out-of- staters that drives 6 hours one way for each home game. As long as its not back to back weekends I'm good with it! I mean its not like I've gotta drive all the way from Shinnston to get there.

  • cutty77

Very Simple here,if Clint Trickett starts against Bama we maybe down 30 at half. Anybody else 14 to 17 points. This year will be Dana's final year to put up or be gone. I wish him well. I'm not expexting Dana to Beat Bama, but he Damm Sure have better results this year than last, plain and simple.

    • Mister Man

      May be and damn sure.

  • Country Roads

Well I have a good feeling about us playing Alabama first game of the year, I'm not going to count West Virginia out yet . I look at it the way the players should look at it it's 11 guys lined up against our 11 guys. The name on the uniform or the color of it should never matter I think West Virginia comes out with that attitude they got a zero zero score in the beginning nobody's lost anything .... Just give it all to go for..

    • Country Roads

First I would like to say I got my Masters degree from WVU ... but to get on here and call people names because they make a post, because they can't understand what is said in the post only gets a couple words and then will criticize the poster. Give me a break . With two degrees and Can't comprehend or understand what is written is what I call an idiot . Arm chair coaches don't prove anything but, except stupidity.. And I see a lot of post on here like that ..

      • Mister Man

First, I would like to say, your post does not reflect you have a Masters from any college.

      • Charleston

As the old saying goes: "Man would perish without a dream" or for the politically correct: "Man,Woman, or Child would perish without a dream".

    • Mike

Country Roads, keep dream'in...at least until kickoff.

    • Charleston

To add to that statement: We are 1-0 at the Georgia Dome....Just sayin.....

      Let's go EERS!

      • mad hatter

        you're a total idiot

        • Charleston

I swear MH, you are Larry or William in sheep's clothing. I could be wrong, though.

      • Country Roads

Thanks Charleston .Thats right we put a good one on Georgia there .

        • dmb

          lol.

  • tw eagle

teamwise & emotionally the change of schedule should help the Mountaineers . . .
going into the Okie game 3-0 , the coaching staff will not be able to keep the walking wounded & bedridden Mounties out of uniform and off the playing field . . .

    Let's Gooo Mountaineeerrrsss ! ! !

    • Charles

How about 0-3? That's certainly possible with this team and coaches. Don't you think Alabama is going to pretty mad they have lost two in a row. They are going to want to take it out on somebody-and guess who that is.

      • Mike

Mad isn't the word for it. Ain't nobody sneaking up on the Tide to start the season. Could be an ugly one.

      • Charles

Have you not noticed bama is breaking in a new qb? Those changes don't just automatically go smoothly even at bama. Ou thumped bama. A team we played to the wire. We have a shot. And it's not even a long shot. Quit believing the sec is god crap.

      • tw eagle

it's also possible that all three games will have been postponed due to inclement weather . . . as far as WVU football is concerned - I'm an eternal optimist . . .

the base of my belief will either be cemented or washed away with who does & who doesn't sign on as WVU footballers . . . getting a JC transfer & 4* QB who will execute a run option offense for the Mountaineers fills me with unlimited optimism . . .

I am already dreaming of thrashing Alabama like WVU did to Okie in the 84' opener . . . and this time in the Ga Dome , WVU needs to push these crackers till they accede to letting the Mountaineer fire his rifle in the dome . . .

        Let's Gooo Mountaineeerrrsss ! ! !

        • mad hatter

face it man, we have no qb,, no one to compete on that level,,, figure four wins again,,,

          • Darby

and forever until we get a coach

        • Charles

You have your dates a little wrong tw. It was '82 not '84. Guess that explains some of your delusional statements also.

        • tw eagle

hello , Dr. Gee , please get busy with these people in Georgia & 'splain' to them that the Mountaineer promises not to kill any of the multitude of rats running loose in the dome . . .

      • Charleston

On one hand I say, " Bring It ". On the other I say, "Ignorance is bliss".
