WVU-Oklahoma football game moved to Sept. 20

Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight (9) and teammates celebrate after the Sooners clinched a 45-31 win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl last month. West Virginia faces both teams during the first four weeks of the 2014 season.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia-Oklahoma football game at Milan Puskar Stadium has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 20, a shift made to accommodate television.

The Big 12 Conference made the announcement Monday afternoon in conjunction with several other schedule changes.

The originally scheduled date of Saturday, Sept. 27, will now serve as an open week for WVU, which faces a daunting early season schedule.

The Mountaineers face Alabama in the Georgia Dome on Aug. 30, followed by the home opener against FCS runner-up Towson a week later. After a trip to Maryland on Sept. 13, West Virginia hosts the Sooners in the Big 12 opener.

Both Alabama and Oklahoma figure to be preseason top-10 teams, while Maryland enters the Big Ten with a projected 17 returning starters from a team that blanked WVU 37-0 last fall.

Kickoff times for the 2014 season will be announced at a later time.

Oklahoma had been slated to face Tulsa on Sept. 20, but that game was shifted to Sept. 6, the Big 12 announced. Also, the Auburn-Kansas State game originally scheduled for Sept. 20 in Manhattan, Kan., will played Thursday, Sept. 18 instead.
