Mayor pleads guilty to drug charge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Pratt Mayor Gary Fields pleaded guilty Thursday to drug possession.

Fields was sentenced to six months probation. The plea allows for the case to be dismissed after the six months sentence. The deal would also allow Fields to have his record expunged if he stays out of trouble between now and this time next year.

Fields was pulled over by a State Trooper last August in a town-owned vehicle. He didn’t have a good explanation for the prescription drugs in his possession. He was eventually charged with one count of misdemeanor possession.

The mayor said again Thursday he will not resign. Some members of city council began an effort in November to force him out of office.
