Hoppy signs 10-year extension with MetroNews

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia Radio Corporation veteran Hoppy Kercheval has signed a new 10-year agreement with the MetroNews Radio Network.

Kercheval, who has been with the radio company since his graduation from West Virginia University in 1976, is the host of “Metronews Talkline,” West Virginia’s most listened to talk show.

In making the announcement West Virginia Radio Corporation President Dale Miller said, “Through hard work, dedication, and talent Hoppy has become so much more than a talk show host—he is part of the fabric of this great state. We are very pleased that he has made the commitment to spend his entire career here and, in particular, with the company that he has helped build.”

“I’ve been blessed to be part of a wonderful company with strong values,” said Kercheval. “Working with John Raese and Dale Miller has made staying here easy. This is, and has always been, the job I wanted.”

Kercheval’s new deal runs through 2024. Hoppy, and his wife Karin, are avid world travelers and live in Morgantown. His son Ben Kercheval is a Big 12 Conference beat reporter for the Bleacher Report website and is based in Denton, Texas.

A native of Summit Point in Jefferson County, Kercheval began as a news anchor/reporter at WAJR in Morgantown while still attending West Virginia University. After graduating with honors from WVU, Kercheval took over as news director at WAJR and began carving an identity as one of the leading broadcasters in West Virginia.

A founding father of Metronews, Kercheval served as News Director until assuming the role of vice president of operations in 1991. In 1993, he created “Metronews Talkline,” which has become a signature program of the network.

“Hoppy’s gift of interviewing has made ‘Talkline’ a daily dose of must-listen radio for lawmakers and everyone interested in state politics and the day’s top news events,” Miller said
