HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — College baseball teams traditionally start the season by heading south to avoid brutal winter weather, but that tactic isn’t working this weekend. Marshall’s 2014 opener at a tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C., has been delayed by snow.
The massive winter storm battering the South forced Wake Forest officials to delay the tournament by at least a day. Marshall was scheduled to face Georgetown on Friday but will now start the season on Saturday at noon.
The Herd is scheduled to face Towson Sunday at noon, and a doubleheader against Wake Forest is slated for Monday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
