Ski resorts hope for big Presidents Day weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Those who operate ski resorts in West Virginia believe the difficult winter from Florida to Maine has put them in a good place for a strong Presidents Day weekend.

“It’s not only been cold in the mountains of West Virginia but it’s been cold in the metro areas where we draw from,” West Virginia Ski Areas Association spokesman Joe Stevens said. “They’ve had cold winters. That’s a good billboard for us when it’s cold in the metro areas.”

Snowshoe, Winterplace, Canaan Valley and Timberline ski resorts all have fresh snow from this week’s storm with dozens of trails ready for skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Stevens said the Presidents Day weekend is one of the top three each season for the resorts.
