MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Musselman avenged an earlier-season 83-55 loss to Martinsburg with a 58-54 win on Saturday night over the Bulldogs. The Applemen improved to 12-4 with the win, while Martinsburg dropped to 12-5 overall on the year.

The eastern panhandle is on a roll, but considering the population boom vs the dwindling numbers of the rest of the state, the only school with real rights to brag is Martinsburg. The other 6 schools plus BS should be wearing teams out, but they are not.

    j,
Reading over your post you sound like you root for anybody but Martinsburg. Doesn't matter. I'm one that believes in loyalty and pride...it makes CHAMPIONS!!!....maybe that's why you can't see black and orange?

  • j

1prouddog what part of I'm a bulldog fan do you not understand there bud. I just chose not to live life with orange and black blinders on like most including you. Where am I getting my information I happen to know a family who had a kid on the team the 99-00 season as a matter of fact the managed to beat martinsburg twice that season. Their series record in boys basketball is dogs 35 apple men 3

    j,
I'm not sure where you are getting your information. Even if Musselman did beat Martinsburg once before and I really doubt they did...this lucky win means nothing! You have to get off on it because when any Applesauce team beats the Bulldogs in a male sport its a MIRACLE!!! I'm happy you can find some happiness for a change! LOL

  • j

And it wasn't the first time in school history. First since the 99-00 season.

  • j

Oh and the game was only moved one day so it really wasn't a make up game. Martinsburg was scheduled to play Musselman that Friday.

  • j

1prouddog. So you are calling another ten year reign for the dogs. Look I'm a dogs fan but I'm going to look at everything through orange and black glasses. Sure Martinsburg has had a incredible run the 13 + plus around here. Everything comes to a end and it will when know one knows for sure. But I know for a fact a lot of the kids coming through youth league are going to go other schools namely Mussel man and Spring Mills. This coming season I wouldn't be shocked if Martinsburg loses their first game to a team for WV

    • realist

Why do you think kids will go to Spring Mills and Musselman? I highly doubt that....as long as kids can go to Martinsburg to play football, they will. Sure there's a new high school, sure the high schools districts were altered. But I haven't seen any repeal of the feeder school rule....so as long as kids go to a school that even partially feeds into Martinsburg, they'll want to go there to be coached by the best staff the state's seen.

      • realist

And seeing as the feeder school rule was created to promote social development, I don't see them repealing it any time soon.

        • realist

Or should I say.....feeder school loophole?

  • 1prouddog

People please...this was a make-up game that was called due to snow! Fact is Martinsburg is younger and didn't come ready to play...so what Musselman won for the first time in their schools history vs. Martinsburg....what's that mean? Nothing!...If you Musselman fans wanna crown yourselves because you'll finally beat the mighty Dogs in a hoop game...go ahead! Fact still remains....Washington is the team to beat in the panhandle!....then there's the Dogs, Hooterville and Applesauce...only 2 can advance to region..I'll bet my house it won't be the rotten apples of Mussxxxxx!!! LOL

JJ I agree with it has become interesting watching basketball around the panhandle this year. It has become pretty even around this area. As far as football being that way I honestly don't believe we are that far away from it being very competitive in this area. With Martinsburg,Mussel man,Jefferson,Washington and the dark horse Spring Mills and going to be able to take it all.

    • 1prouddog

Keep dreaming j...no football team in this panhandle will be coming close in the next 10 years of beating Martinsburg!!! That's a fact!!!

  • Shepherdstown

Musselman plays a very physical game. I am not totally sold on Wesco as a basketball player. Someone mentioned him as a power forward. I agree. When I saw him play, and hope to see him again Tuesday night, he was more of a point fullback with his physical play in bringing the ball up court. I do think he is somewhat limited in ball handling, but he is tough to stop once he gets into the paint.
However, I am not surprised that Kelly Church was able to shut him down in the second half with his best player when they played a week ago or so.
I see Musselman as behind Washington and Hedgesville in coming out of the region/section with a spirited game between Musselman and Hedgesville in the post season.

Shepherdstown - I agree with you; however, don't underestimate the bulldogs. If the ranking are 1. Washington; 2 Hedgesville, 3. Martinsburg and 4 Musselman - I would not be surprised to see Martinsburg at States. Musselman has one more loss in the section that Martinsburg and if martinsbug beat Jefferson and Hedgesville beats Musselman I don't see Musselman going anywhere since they will face Washington in the semi finals. The same would be true for martinsburg if they are ranked 4.

  • JJ

Yes I agree the officiating in this area is horrific and also agree about Hargrove he's a good player as well, and I'm not making excuses for Martinsburg I just find it hard to believe that a team only committed 2 fouls in a whole half of basketball. I also like the fact that the level of BB in the panhandle is now on the same level with Baseball and is very competitive day in and day out just wish football would become the same

  • j

Our officials in this area are not the best we know. But if you trying to imply that's why Martinsbourg lost. Well the a loses mentality. If not then let's move on. Also there hasn't been to many teams let alone kids who could or can keep up with the athletes on Washington's team. But as far as Wesco being the best on the team don't sell Hargrove short the boy can play

  • JJ

Wesco couldn't run with Washington the other night which lead to his coach pulling a trick from "the ville" out of the bag, they kept spilling water onto the floor during timeouts trying to stall and let his kids have a break not to mention that he plays bb like he's on the fb field and gets away with it explain how Mussleman only had 2 fouls in the 1st half last night and Tuesday against Washington the we're letting Wesco put his knees and elbows into the chest of defenders and not calling anything then they were calling touch fouls at the other end of the court not to mention that he grabbed the jersey of several Washington players while they were running down the court cause he couldn't keep up with them the kid is a good athlete and the best on the Musselman team and I'll leave it at that. It's going to be interesting come sectional time gonna be tuff but I see Washington winning the regional as long as they stay healthy and keep playing like they have been and whoever is the runner up in this section will be the other team that goes to Charleston

  • j

Sorry but Wesco( not westco) is not overrated. Musselman just uses him wrong. He's a power forward not a point. You bring up the fact that the Apple man only scored 3 more than the last game. Guess what it was enough to beat your Dogs. Just accept the defeat and move on. Really starting to see why Martinsburg fans are hated around here. They can't accept a lose humbly

  • Katie Mae Cloud

So I must say our dogs are young next yr will be a different picture book and by the way Musselman YOU DIDN'T WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! That belongs to Washington this yr they are MARVELOUS you only scored 3pts more than your last game. I wouldnt be so shy to say they were mostly Westco at the Charity stripe. By the way his ball handling skills off and he is over rated. Check out that fresh on Hedgesville. Yes it hurts me to say it becausebi bleed orange and black but CJ is ranked in the nation! Impressed I am. Our eastern panhandle has some MEGA TALENT!!! #DOGS
