CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Attorneys for Freedom Industries said Friday the company’s days are numbered. The company appeared at a bankruptcy hearing.
Freedom filed bankruptcy a little more than a week after the Jan. 9 leak of the chemical MCHM from its Charleston tank farm site into the Elk River. The spill touched off a what emergency impacting residents in nine counties.
Dozens of lawsuits have been filed against Freedom and the company said it doesn’t have the money to fight them. The company’s attorneys said Friday at some point the company would cease to exist. The company currently plans to stay in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Freedom still doesn’t know how much it will cost to clean-up the site.
