‘Sweet Dreamers’ split a million bucks

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A group of 12 Mattress Warehouse workers will have sweet dreams after winning $1 million dollars in the recent Powerball drawing. The co-workers at the Winfield location picked up their checks Friday at West Virginia Lottery headquarters.

Payroll coordinator Susan Bennett said $57,083 for her and 11 other coworkers will come in handy.

“We’re just like any other ordinary person—we always dreamed,” Bennett said. “But to really, really win, it’s unreal.”

The group often plays Powerball and Bennett said she typically purchases tickets at different locations, but that wasn’t the case this week.

“I was running late to one of my grandson’s birthday parties the other night and I thought, ‘I’ll just get them all in one place, take our chance,’ and it did I guess,” she laughed.

The purchase was made at the Little General in Winfield.

The Mattress Warehouse winners are Bennett, Stacy Sockwell, Rhonda Neal, Misty Jenkins, Kristen Anderson, Kendra Preast, Jennifer Norton, Jason Swan, Danny Beckner, Cindy Jeffers, Brian Patterson and Andrew Bloomfield.

Bennett said she’ll use her winnings to help her son and daughter-in-law with in vitro fertilization.

The “Dreamers” are the fourth $1 million winners in 12 days in West Virginia. They join Logan County resident Randy Brown who hit Mega Millions, a group of workers at the Beckley Register Herald who won in a Powerball drawing and a yet-to-be-claimed winning Powerball ticket sold on Wheeling Island.
