Harris downplays 32 points: ‘It didn’t matter what I did because we lost’

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — He sank his first six 3-pointers, produced 32 points and looked unguardable at times, none of which consoled Eron Harris after West Virginia dropped a crucial home game against Baylor 88-75.

Finishing just one point shy of his career scoring high, Harris finished 9-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-9 from 3-point range.

“It didn’t matter what I did because we lost,” he said. “We didn’t get the stops we needed today, which is basically the story every time we lose.

“We didn’t get the stops we needed to get, so we took that ‘L.’

With Terry Henderson unavailable due to illness and the penetration of point guard Juwan Staten somewhat neutralized by Baylor’s zone, Harris became West Virginia’s best option—particularly in the second half, when he scored 17 of his team’s 33 points.

“Eron Harris is a heck of a player,” said Baylor coach Scott Drew. “(Royce) O’Neale did a good job trying to slow him down, even though he was still 6-of-9 from 3.”
