Kanawha woman charged with killing mother

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County woman is accused of killing her mother.

On Monday, deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jessica Woods, 36, on a murder charge for the death of Eva Linda Woods, 59, of St. Albans.

Jessica Woods of St. Albans was arrested Monday and charged with killing her 59-year-old mother.

The mother was last seen near her St. Albans home on West  Main Street, where Jessica had also reportedly been living recently, back on Friday.

Eva Woods was reported missing on Saturday.

“There were a lot of inconsistencies and the detectives followed some suspicious leads that they had and conducted several more interviews and ultimately executed a few search warrants which lead to the discovery of Eva Woods’ body in a shed on her property,” said Cpl. Brian Humphreys.

The discovery was made on Sunday.

“She had been placed beneath that shed and also a shallow grave had been dug near the body, but the body was not in that shallow grave at the time she was discovered,” said Humphreys.

Jessica Woods was found at the Days Inn Hotel in Kanawha City on Monday morning.  After being interviewed, she was arrested and charged with murder.

On Monday night, she was being held in the South Central Regional Jail and was scheduled to be back in Kanawha County Magistrate Court on March 3 at 1:30 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Investigators are still looking into the murder of Woods.
