NC A&T hangs on for 2-1 win over The Herd

GREENSBORO, N.C.— On the warmest, sunniest of Marshall’s three-day stint here, the Herd baseball team failed to capitalize on Michael Taylor’s strong start and fell 2-1 to North Carolina A&T in the series rubber game.

Taylor (1-1) pitched seven innings of six-hit baseball. He allowed only one run in the first inning to marginalize a bases-loaded, no-out jam. But a solo homer by A&T’s Cam Jergens in the fourth proved to be the difference.

The Herd, which slipped to 3-3, struck for its lone run in the third as Spencer Iacovone walked and scored on Chase Vogelbach’s single.

North Carolina A&T right-hander Mitchell McQueen threw a 101-pitch complete game and held Marshall to four hits, those coming from Bird, Vogelbach, Andrew Dundon and Cory Garrastazu.

Marshall will head back to the Carolinas next weekend when it faces James Madison, Duke, Coastal Carolina, and Rhode Island in the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
