Blast of snow hits central counties

GASSAWAY, W.Va. — A burst of snow over central West Virginia Tuesday morning created hazardous driving conditions and forced the closure of schools.

The National Weather Service placed all central counties under a Winter Weather Advisory with up to three inches of snow possible.

Travel was slippery for the morning rush hour from Point Pleasant to Buckhannon with dozens of wrecks reported on Interstates 77 and 79.

Schools were closed in Barbour, Gilmer, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler, Upshur and Wirt counties.
