Video: Carey sees teaching points for streaking Mountaineers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Coach Mike Carey watched his No. 11 West Virginia squad struggle to score at times during a 69-37 win against lowly Texas Tech.

And he was thrilled.

With a titanic matchup against Baylor just four days away, he figured some teaching points might be good for a team that has won eight straight games.

“It’s great to have this film,” Carey said. “In my opinion, the worst thing we could have done was to have come out and played great, because then we’d start feeling good about ourselves. I heard them in (the locker room) afterward saying ‘We can’t play like this against Baylor.'”

Carey was nitpicking a bit—considering West Virginia (25-3, 14-2) led the Red Raiders (6-21, 0-16) by 19 points at half and cruised during the second half. Then again, WVU did lose the turnover battle 17-16.
