CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Single digit lows forecasted for Thursday night will be short-lived according to the National Weather Service as meteorologists await the next weather system expected to arrive Sunday night into Monday.
NWS Meteorologist Nick Webb said Thursday night lows would be in the single digits in most West Virginia communities but below zero in the northern mountain valleys. He said conditions would quickly moderate Friday with highs near 40 and warmer Saturday with highs approaching 50.
Webb said the next weather maker comes at the end of the weekend and it’s still too early to say what it will leave behind, rain or snow.
“It’s all in the track of the storm,” Webb said. “The position of the cold frontal boundary, how much cold air is available for it to tap into, things like that. A shift of 25 or 50 miles could mean a difference between any number of precipitation types across the area.”
