Clay-Battelle stays hot, completes sweep of Notre Dame

CLARKSBURG, W.Va — Clay-Battelle used a 12-3 run to end the game on Thursday night, extending its  winning streak to nine games with a 71-66 win over Notre Dame.

Tristan Haught scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, going 5-of-5 from the line down the stretch to ice the game for the Cee-Bees. The win completes the regular season sweep for Clay-Battelle over Notre Dame.

“Our boys really wanted it tonight, it’s a big rivalry Notre Dame and Clay-Battelle,” Clay-Battelle coach Josh Kisner said. “We looked at it as we had an opportunity going against the No. 1 team in the state, and our boys came out and executed.”

The Cee Bees (17-5) had a balanced attack on offense as five players scored in double figures, led by Cannon Brummage who put up 16. Jarret Hockenberry and Jarrett Roush each added 14 points, while Zach Chisler added 12.

Clay-Battelle beat Notre Dame 71-66 on Thursday night.

“We’ve preached ‘team’ since day one when they started doubling Chisler, he’s getting the ball to other guys and they’re scoring,” Kisner said. “Everyone on the team can be a scorer.”

Notre Dame (17-4) was led by freshman Jarrod West Jr., who had 20 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers. As a team, the Irish stayed in the game by connecting on nine 3-pointers.

Cal Cistaro chipped in 12 points, while Justin Goff and Christopher Petrucci each had 10 points.

The Irish head into sectional play having lost two out of their last games and they will look to regroup to make another run at Charleston.

“We have to get these two losses our of our system and get ready for the sectionals, it’s win or go home,” Notre Dame coach Jarrod West said. “We’re going to bounce back and be ready for next week.”
