Staten vs. TCU’s Anderson matches high-scoring point guards

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia point guard Juwan Staten, currently second in Big 12 in scoring at 18.1 points per game, is preparing for Saturday’s matchup against TCU counterpart Kyan Anderson, who’s fifth in the conference at 16.9.

“He has nice handle, he can get his shot off, he has a lot of good moves and he can pass the ball too,” Staten said. “He has the ball for about 25 seconds of the shot clock, so I’ll definitely have to sit down and guard him.”

After three straight losses, West Virginia (15-13, 7-8) is trying to regain postseason momentum and remain in position for a first-round bye in the Big 12 tournament by finishing in sixth place or higher. The Horned Frogs (9-18, 0-15) haven’t won since Dec. 29.

“With us needing wins and being desperate, we can’t afford to lose a game like this—especially at home,” Staten said. “So we’re definitely coming out feeling like we have to get this one, and they’re coming out feeling like they need their first win. It’s going to be a competitive game.”
