Former WVU recruit pleads guilty to sexual abuse

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former West Virginia linebacker d’Vante Henry awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to first-degree sexual abuse.

Henry, 21, of Moore, Okla., was kicked off the team in September 2013 after his arrest on charges of second-degree sexual assault. A criminal complaint filed with Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department said the alleged assault happened on Sept. 8 when a  woman said Henry entered her room in the early morning hours and physically forced her to engage in sexual intercourse.

Henry entered a guilty plea for first-degree sexual abuse and faces a prison term of one to five years.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Henry came to WVU as a transfer from Arizona Western College last summer. After choosing West Virginia over offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oregon State, Iowa State and Utah, he was projected to play the Spur linebacker.

But Henry never practiced with the team, and following the arrest, head coach Dana Holgorsen said Henry had been suspended.
