Second Division of Highways worker charged with lying to feds

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A second worker with the state Division of Highways has been charged with making a false statement to a federal agent as part of a larger investigation focused on the DOH’s Equipment Division.

A federal grand jury indicted Edward Matthew Tuttle, 38, of Buckhannon this week.  Currently working as the Upshur County DOH highway administrator, Tuttle previously served as a supervisor with the Equipment Division.

Tuttle allegedly lied to agents and officers with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  If he’s convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Last month, Barry Thompson, 48, of Mount Clare was indicted on a charge of making a false statement to a federal agent.  He is a DOH supervisor.

The DOH’s Equipment Division is based in Buckhannon.  Those with the U.S. Attorney’s Public Corruption Unit are handling the investigation.
